Yiannis Tsiros was born in Messinia – Southwest Greece – and raised in Athens. He studied drawing, photography and music and, between 1991 and 1993, attended classes in the department of Theatre Studies. He has worked as a photojournalist and musician, with jobs in the radio and the national television.

He has written screenplays for short films – The Cakes of Rage, Men don’t Cry, Volcano –, feature films – To Fos Pou Svinei (The Fading Light), The Mountain Ahead, Apnea, My Enemy –, as well as a television film – The Meter.

To Fos Pou Svinei (The Fading Light) won the Best Movie Award at the International Festival of Lecce (Italy) in 2001, the 1^st place award for Poetic Movie at the Moscow International Film Festival in 2002, the Best Movie award at the Cairo International Film Festival in 2002 and the Audience Award at the Mediterranean Film Festival of Cologne in 2002.

The Mountain Ahead was awarded 3^rd place in the Best Movie category at the Moscow International Film Festival in 2010.

Apnea won the FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics) prize at Thessaloniki’s International Film Festival in 2010, as well as the Audience Award.
