Antonis and Konstantinos Koufalis were born in Kavala. They studied Law and Pharmacy respectively and both practiced their professions.
They both took creative writing courses in Oslo. They were heavily influenced by the social conscience and writing style of the 1980’s reality of the United States, where they both lived for a long period of time.
In 2001, they were honored with two National Theatre awards for their plays Don’t scratch the sand and The house with the presents. They were nominated twice for the award for best dramaturgy in a play at the “Karolos Koun” Theatre Awards.
Their plays have been performed in Greece and Cyprus. The following plays and performances are considered important highlights in their career; Sotiria’s Army (2004), directed by Kosmas Foudoukis, The Mist (2009), directed by Takis Tzamarias and The Sixth Caryatid (2012), directed by Kostas Tsoklis. Their other plays include Women in Snow, The small dictionary of abnormal verbs, The Talk of the Town and Forgive Me.
They have conducted theatrical adaptations of Alexandros Papadiamantis’ novels entitled The Saintly Poor and have also organized a theatrical performance of Dionysios Solomos’ poem The Free Besieged.
They have represented Greece in the 28th International Festival of Sarajevo in 2012, with The Mist.
As of January 2013, they have a regular weekly column entitled “The Talk of the Town” in the newspaper Eleftherotypia.
In the summer of 2013, Antonis played the role of Konstantinos Kavafis in Kostas Akrivos’ play My elderly father at the Fillipon Festival, which was directed by Thodoris Gonis, with Maya Liberopoulou as Chariklia Kavafi.
Since November 2013, Antonis is working at the National Theatre of Greece as an assistant Art Director.
A number of their plays have been translated into English. The first performance of Sotiria’s Army in the English language was performed in London in 2014 (directed by Menelaos Karantzas).
