Born in Piraeus in 1953, Panagiotis Mentis studied theatre in Pelos Katselis’ Drama School, and has been a theatre actor since 1976.
He has collaborated with important theatre companies and leading figures of the Greek theatre. He has worked for the National Theatre, the National Theatre of Northern Greece, and a number of Municipal Regional Theatres.
He has received two awards from the Ministry of Culture for his work as a playwright, for Playmobil (1989) and Anna, I said! (1994). In 1997, his play Save won him an honorary distinction in the first International Cultural Competition organized by the Onassis Foundation. In 2001, in the second Competition organized by the Onassis Foundation, Mentis’ play Foreigners – staged in the National Theatre’s New Scene – won the third international award.
Panagiotis Mentis is a board member of the Greek Playwrights’ Association, and has also been a board member of the National Theatre of Northern Greece.
Currently, he is the artistic director of the Municipal Regional Theatre of Serres.
