Vangelis Hatziyannidis, novelist and playwright, was born in Serres, North Greece, in 1967. He has studied Law at the University of Athens and Drama at the Veakis Acting School. For a few years he has worked as an actor. He lives in Athens.

His first book, titled Four Walls, novel, was published in 2000 (To Rodakio editions) and has been awarded the “Diavazo Prize 2001 for First-time Author”. Four Walls have been published in Italian (Crocetti), in Spanish (Tempora), in French (Albin Michel), in English (Marion Boyars) and in Portugese (Babel). In France the book won the Laure Bataillon Prize for the best translated novel of the year. In the English translation it has been shortlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize.

His second novel is titled The Guest (To Rodakio editions 2004). It has been published in English (Marion Boyars), in Italian (Crocetti) and in Spanish (Tempora).

His third book, a collection of short stories, is titled Natural Histories (To Rodakio).   

He has also written the plays Disguise, Mud, La Poupee, Air, Screenlight, Cake, all of them published and staged in Greece. Screenlight has won the Public Prize in Heidelberg’s theatre festival 2013.
