As part of its framework of activities, the Italian Center of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture has announced its upcoming participation in the 12th edition of the International Poetry Competition Castello Di Duino, an annual competition that takes place every March in Trieste. The competition is organized by the Poetry and Solidarity cultural association in cooperation with the Collegio del Mondo Unito dell’ Adriatico in Duino, with the support of UNESCO, as well as the support of Prince Carlo Alessandro della Torre e Tasso del Castello di Duino, the municipalities of Duino, Muggia and Trieste, the district of Friuli Venezia Giulia and other public bodies.
The competition is organized under the auspices of the presidency of the Italian Republic, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the Italian Ministry of Youth.
This international competition is recognized as one of the most significant institutions of its kind in Italy and has been met with enthusiasm, with the participation of more than 7000 people so far. The organization of the event will be monitored by Gabriella Valera Gruber, university professor in the department of Philology and Philosophy at the University of Trieste.
The international competition is open worldwide for schools as well as young people under 30 years of age.
In order to be eligible for the competition, all poems by individual participants must be submitted until November 10th 2015. The submission deadline for schools is December 31st 2015.
GENERAL RULES:
- The competition is open to young people under 30 years of age.
- Participation is free of charge.
- All works submitted must be in line with the theme of the competition.
The theme of the 12th edition is “The Gesture and the Genesis” (Creativity and Creation in life, Thinking, Nature Arts)
The theme of the competition can be developed in an unbiased manner through the use of metaphor and imagination.
One can participate in one or more of the following sections:
1. Unpublished Poems
Participants may send only one unpublished and never awarded poem, no longer than 40 lines.
2. Theatre (Monologue or Dialogue between 2 characters)
In order to participate in this section of the competition, participants must submit only one unpublished and never awarded dramatic play, 5 pages maximum and no more than 10000 characters (spaces included).
If the aforementioned criteria are not met, the participant will be instantly disqualified from the competition.
All works must be submitted within November 10th 2015.
It is required that all plays must be submitted in an Italian translation and will be evaluated as such and not in their original language.
All works must be submitted:
a) Preferably by E-Mail to valeragabriella@gmail.com. Please, send the complete Application Form in the message and the work attached to the message in Format word or rtf.
b) Via regular mail, to: Prof. Gabriella Valera Gruber – Via Matteotti 21 – 34138, Trieste (Italy). In this case, applications must be postmarked by November 10. In any case, no work arriving after the jury has started its evaluation process (a few days after the deadline) will be taken into account.
Prizes and Awards:
· First, Second and Third Prize ( The winner’s name will be written on the honorary mention)
· Honorary Awards
The plays that will receive the first three prizes and honorary awards will be performed in an important city theatre of Trieste during the award ceremony and will also be published on the website of the competition.
Publication of the Results:
The list of the winners will be published in the website of the competition: www.castellodiduinopoesia.org.
Winners will be notified via e-mail, phone or regular mail. The awarding ceremony will take place on March 20, 2016, at the Castle of Duino (Castello di Duino – 34011 Duino Aurisina Trieste).
