Maria, a woman in her sixties, works as a dresser for a celebrated theatre actress. She quietly envies the actress’s fame, but does nothing about it. Nothing at all.
On her days off, she sits on a bench outside a large clothing store and gazes at the window display. Iakovos, a lonely seventy-year-old retiree in the early stages of dementia, sits on the same bench when Maria is not there, gazing at the same window.
And then there is a young man, around twenty-five — perhaps a creation of Maria’s imagination, perhaps a distant memory.
Together, the three create something beautiful.
At the end of the play, Maria and Iakovos dance a gentle waltz through time.
Blackout.
