In 2044, the state has abolished the elderly’s right to self-determination. They are forbidden to live in their own homes or move about freely. Depending on their financial circumstances, they are confined either to luxurious retirement residences, state-run care homes, or containers left over from former refugee camps.
Two residents of a retirement home — Katyusha, a former political refugee in Russia, where communism has returned in the form of a “Soviet Reunification,” and her more moderate friend Alcibiades, a retired set designer — decide to meet Anthony Grosser, a famous Greek-American actor who lives in a penthouse suite in the same residence.
Eusebia and Pausanias, two young employees responsible respectively for the residents’ care and security, place obstacles in the way of their daring schemes.
In sharp contrast to the two young employees, the trio of elderly residents is driven by an irrepressible passion for life, love, laughter, play and freedom — a passion seemingly at odds with their age. Can such things really happen, or is the whole thing a farce?
