A young visual artist, caught in a creative impasse, turns to the life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo in search of inspiration. Frida gradually becomes an obsession, and the young artist begins to assume the role of the “imaginary” friend whom Kahlo mentions in her diaries.
This imaginary friend accompanies Frida as crucial moments of her life unfold. Yet the true protagonist of the play is language itself: a visceral language, born deep within the body, where physical pain transforms words into something almost unbearable to the spectator’s ear.
Directed by the playwright herself, the play was first presented as a staged reading at Epi Kolono Theatre in June 2015, and subsequently as a full production at the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation in November 2015.
Frida’s Pornography was published by Aigokeros Publications in Athens in 2015.
