- There is optimism. And “optimism.” There are associations. And “associations.” And there is the “Association for the By-All-Means Preservation of Optimism.” And it goes on an excursion. Happy. Cheerful. Optimistic. After all, when we are good and obedient and—above all—optimistic, what could possibly go wrong? Everything. Seven people travel in a small car. They have decided to leave everything behind, take their fate into their own hands, overcome their fears, and find a new, beautiful place. At first, everything is fantastic. But their road is full of obstacles, sharp turns, extreme weather conditions, landslides, arguments, and hunger. Yet the Association is well trained. And it has its charter. …The Association is empowered to collect, wherever found, all forms of Optimism and its derivatives, and to impose it through polite persuasion, civilized exchange of arguments, and—in cases of emergency—through violence… It is true that, at times, optimism can become unbearable.
