Set against the backdrop of 19th-century Russia and prompted by 21st-century Greece, with inspiration from Gogol’s satirical novella The Tale of How Ivan Ivanovich Quarrelled with Ivan Nikiforovich, three characters break through the boundaries of time and space with the irreverent spirit of a revue. They oscillate between Mirgorod in Russia and a daytime television panel, humorously lampooning the timeless human tendency to quarrel over the slightest things and, above all, the contemporary impulse towards mutual destruction that dominates the media and is simultaneously fuelled by it. A comedy about the distortion of the common sense of justice and the collapse of social values, the Ivans – in all their incarnations – invite us to ask: why so much hatred?
