Theodore Tsapakidis was born in Brussels in 1970, in a family of political refugees. He came in Greece with his family at the age of eight. He grew up at Palaio Faliro and got a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Patras. During his military service, he served as a stock-keeper in an ammunition depot. He lives in Athens and works as a teacher in a evening Vocational School (Naval Engineers).
He has written stage plays (Romeo and Juliet, waiting – Greek National Theatre, Prova Generale– Neos Kosmos Theatre, Operation Halima – Fournos Theatre etc.), poetry (The third rower from the left – ed. Roes, The sky in the room – ed. Sokoli), novels (The elephant in Hotel Phidias – ed. Pikramenos, Belladona – ed. Vivliopelagos), a fairytale (The Prince of Menoua – ed. Roes), studies (The digital photo script as medium for the linguistic elaboration etc.) and articles on culture (LEFT, Bookpress etc.).
He has worked as a dramaturg for the stage adaptation of Stefan Zweig’s Chess Novel, and has been part of the dramaturgy team on a tribute composition based on Loula Anagnostaki’s plays (Construction site Loula Anagnostaki), for the Athens and Epidaurus Festival. He has been the dramaturg and director for the stage adaptation of Lysias’s On the Refusal of a Pension to the Invalid (The Katakouzenos House Museum) and for The Little Prince and his Rose a room musical based on the correspondence of Antoine de Saint Exupéry and his wife. He has also directed My Name is Rachel Corrie (Fournos Theatre).
He has translated theatre essays (Y. Oida, K. Stanislavski), philosophical and critical works (E. Morin, A. Oz), popular science (R. Penrose, A. Prochiantz), literature (N. Gordimer, S. Barry, P. Quignard, P. Highsmith, J.P. Manchette, etc.), comics (A. Jodorowsky, D. Pecqueur, etc.) and articles for festivals and exhibition catalogues.
Since 2016, he is the producer for the weekly radio show “Jaxebore” (a show for the arts, in all its guises) at metadeftero.gr web radio.
