Darlasi Angela

Angela Darlasi was born in Athens, where she still lives and works. She has a BA in Theatre Studies from the University of Athens and an MA in Performance Studies from The Central School of Speech and Drama, London. She has also attended writing courses (play and screenplay) in Greece and England.

She is a founding member of the performing group “The Other Side” (1999) and the independent record company Puzzlemusik (2006).

She has directed theatre, mixed performances, music concerts, performances and devised theatre performances. She has worked as Assistant Director in theatre and cinema, and has translated theatrical texts.

As an instructor, she has taught and still teaches theatre and/or creative writing to children and adults. She has taught in primary, secondary and higher education, in private and public IEK (Institutes of Vocational Training), KEE (Adult Education Centers) and Lifelong Learning Centers.  

She has collaborated with museums, municipalities and private organizations, orchestrating and directing creative writing workshops for children and adults.

Her career as a writer was launched in 2000; her play The Secret Recipe of Francesca Dreamer won second prize in the Playwriting Contest for New Playwrights (Notos Theatre – General Secretariat for Youth). Her play A City in a State of Emergency won a commendation in the Play Contest organized by the National Theatre of Northern Greece (2004), and was staged at the Festival of Experimental Performances at Amore theatre (directed by Melina Mascha).

In 2004 she publishes her first novel for children and young adults, which won the State Prize for child and youth literature. Her second novel When We Hid An Angel (2009) won the award for Best Literary Book for children and young adults from the Greek section of the IBBY (International Board on books for Young People), and is included in the international list of the 2010 White Ravens; the theatrical version of the book won a State Award.

She continues to write prose and theater, winning commendations and receiving positive reviews.
