His parents were refugees from Eastern Thrace. He studied journalism, drawing and theatre costume. He has been working as a journalist and columnist in newspapers, magazines and radio since 1969. He has also worked in children\u2019s theatre and he has written and illustrated children\u2019s books. Over thirty of his comic texts and plays have been staged in Greece. He has also been writing for many years texts for revues.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Great Murder<\/em> was his first novel published in 1981. Other works that have been published include: <em>The Come-and-Go Family<\/em>, \u00a0(1982), <em>A Summer Lost in the Winter<\/em> (1984), <em>The Showman will Never Show Up<\/em> (1985), <em>Dead Liqueur <\/em>(1987), <em>The Paper-like September of our Heart<\/em> (1989), <em>The Pink I Couldn\u2019t Forget <\/em>(1991), <em>The Coffee Era<\/em> (1992), <em>Monday of the Innocents <\/em>(1994), <em>Strawberry Train <\/em>(1996), <em>\u2026 And Then Came the Bees<\/em> (1998), <em>The Turk in the Garden<\/em> (2001), <em>The Christmas Tango<\/em> (2003), <em>Uncle Takis <\/em>(2005), <em>Viper\u2019s Milk<\/em> (2007), <em>The Istanbul of my Disrespectful Fears<\/em> (2008), <em>Miss Pelagia<\/em> (2010) and <em>The Teacher\u2019s Son<\/em> (2012). Some of his books have been filmed for TV and cinema. His work has been translated in French, English, German, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Danish as well as in many other languages.
