The play\u00a0is based on a long-term research by the author on the unknown painter Kostas Stathis. It is written in iambic fifteen syllables in Cypriot dialect. The play was awarded by\u00a0THOC in 2005.<\/p>\n
We are in the old Nicosia bazaar in the 1920s, ’30s and’ 40s when Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots and Armeniens lived harmoniously under the English administration. All communities are united by the struggle for survival.<\/p>\n
Through Androniko’s life pass\u00a0all the historical and political events of the time, such as the proclamation of Cyprus as a crown colony in 1925, the October 1931, the creation of parties and guilds, the division of the people, the burning of the Government. Poverty, usurpation, the unbearable taxes\u00a0 imposed by the British rule are intertwined with people’s lives in\u00a0Chora, thus creating parallel short stories within the play, and around the central hero.<\/p>\n
